             abstract = "This study has as objective the use of geoprocessing and remote 
                         sensing techniques in order to map and quantify the areas of 
                         vegetal covering that were modified by the human being in the 
                         municipality of S{\~a}o Raimundo das Mangabeiras, through data 
                         obtained from the satelite CBERS-2 compared to the data from IBGES 
                         Demographic Agriculture and Livestock Census. It has been verified 
                         that 55.985 ha of the studied {\'a}rea were somehow degraded, 
                         having its natural vegetal covering being reduced in some way. 
                         When confronting these numbers with the data on the Census of 
                         1985, it has been verified that in a period of almost 20 years, 
                         there has been na increase of 96,2% on the areas modified by the 
                         human being. It has also been verified that among all human 
                         activities, the one with most impact to the environment is 
                         agriculture. However, according to the Census of 1980, 1991 and 
                         2001, the population increase was balanced, not having great 
                         influence on the increase of deforestation in the region, it can 
                         posibly be caused by the increase in number and extension of 
                         agricultural establishments.",
